Have you watched the brilliant Aussie comedy/drama series FRAYED.
It’s set in Newcastle, and I’ve been dying to visit ever since.
There are a few memorable scenes set at the Newcastle Ocean Baths. Including one where a homeless dude washes his bits in the showers and makes hoick sounds after his swim, all the while a romance between two characters is blooming. Must watch!
I eventually made it to the pools in late May 2021, as Aussie is easing into winter.
The water was cold at 18 degrees or so, and made my skin all pink and zingy. But I loved it.
Every stroke, each breath was bliss.
There are big-ass fish in the pool which makes the swim magical.
The 50m pool looks like it’s been stuck on the end of the main baths. So there is a shite-load of space to swim.
Warm showers and a cafe on the grounds means this pool gets 9/10.
Only trouble is without lines on the bottom of the pool I swam into the lane ropes a few times. Also, the fish played a part in distracting my straight line swim, so maybe that’s a good thing?
