I was born in Durban, South Africa, and moved to Wellington, New Zealand, when I was 14.
My first experience of death was my father’s, when I was four-years-old. I have been a spiritual seeker ever since, with unwavering encouragement from my mother, grandmother, aunt and cousins.
Listening to music and writing letters has been my all-time favourite creative release since childhood.
A BA in Psychology and Religious Studies at Victoria University, and a Diploma in Journalism at Massey University was a logical fit.
I spent 11 years working as a print and radio journalist in Wellington, and later Sydney.
Highlights included editing Wellington’s Capital Times Newspaper, reporting on the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa for Radio New Zealand, and interviewing Anti-Apartheid activist Archbishop Desmond Tutu in person.
Another exhilarating face-to-face experience was interviewing REM’s Michael Stipe at Glastonbury Music Festival, UK, as a rookie journo for Rip It Up Music Magazine.
My passion for journalism faded shortly after my first tandem skydive.
I fell in love with my skydiving instructor while on holiday in Fiji. Six months later I moved to Australia, learned to skydive, and shortly after we married.
My husband is my very favourite person. There is no way I would have completed more than 1000 skydives, become a Tandem Master and Accelerated Freefall Instructor, let alone a yoga teacher without him.
Yoga and meditation is my daily bread.
The Eastern wisdom traditions have slowly transformed me from a tequila-drinking hunchback, to my current incarnation.
My favourite group activity is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with my family at Gracie Barra Shellharbour.
Because a hug is just a choke that hasn’t been finished yet.
